What Are Adaptogens and Why You Should Know About Them

”Reading < 1

Recently, I conducted an informal poll to find out how many people are familiar with adaptogens and their benefits. I was surprised to learn that even among supplement users, the majority of people I polled had no idea what adaptogens are or what they do. This lack of awareness is the inspiration behind this short article.

So what are adaptogens? An adaptogen is a natural substance, often a plant or herb, that helps your body to adapt and cope with stress. Adaptogens are believed to help regulate the body’s stress response by supporting the adrenal glands and other systems in the body.

When you’re under stress, your body releases a hormone called cortisol, which can have negative effects on your health if it’s released in high amounts for prolonged periods of time. Adaptogens are thought to help balance the release of cortisol and other stress hormones, reducing the negative impact of stress on your body.

Adaptogens have been used in traditional medicine systems like Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine for centuries, and are now gaining popularity in the western world. Some common examples of adaptogens include ashwagandha, rhodiola, and ginseng.

If you’re looking to research ingredients with adaptogenic benefits, Genmag.com is a valuable resource. The website covers many specialty adaptogenic ingredients that are specifically designed to provide a range of health benefits. Just go to the search bar and type in Adaptogens and get ready to spend an afternoon.

  1. My first experience with adaptogenic ingredients was with ashwagandha. I feel like it helps me relax, and in the process of relaxing, stress and anxiety go away. The stuff is legit.
